DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off a season-long four-game road swing, the Davidson men's soccer team returns to Alumni Stadium Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. contest against Liberty.
The Wildcats, who will play six of their last eight regular season contests on 1992 Team Field, enters 5-4-1 overall following a 2-1 overtime setback at Jacksonville over the weekend.
"The players are excited about playing back home on 1992 Team Field at Alumni Stadium," said head coach Matt Spear. "They always look one game at a time, but of course we have missed being here."
Despite the loss, Davidson finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots, including seven on frame. The Dolphins made the most of their opportunities, finding the back of the net with two of their three shots on goal.
Valeriy Sviderskiy has scored the Wildcats' last five goals and leads the team with six strikes on the season, which is tied for second in the Southern Conference. The sophomore is making the most of his opportunities scoring on .429 of his attempts, while 11 of his 14 shots have been on frame.
Liberty, which hasn't played in eight days, comes in 4-4 after dropping a 3-1 contest at High Point.
Sachem Wilson leads the Flames offensively with four goals, two assist and 10 total points.
"Liberty has quality, like all NCAA Division I programs, and we will need the right start, mindset, commitment and performance to earn the win."
Davidson and Liberty have met just six times on the pitch with each team winning three contests. The two teams haven't played since Oct. 11, 1999, a game the Flames won 2-1 in Lynchburg.
"Nothing is handed to you, and the team will have to step up to thrive and deliver the win."
The Wildcats return to action this weekend when they host nationally-ranked and conference foe Furman at 7 p.m. Saturday.
