DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's soccer team triumphed for the sixth straight game, defeating Duquesne 2-1 Saturday night at Alumni Stadium. The win marks the longest winning streak since 2009 when the Wildcats won seven in-a-row.
The 'Cats improve to 8-5-2 and 4-1-2 in Atlantic 10 play, putting them in a dead heat with Fordham for the second seed in the conference standings. The Dukes fall to 2-5 in league action.
Despite letting up a goal for the first time since Sept. 27, the Wildcats took their sixth straight win thanks to sophomore Brady McGlone, whose first goal of the season took a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute. He was assisted by two freshman, JP Ramos Mora and Nicholas Alvaro Zeballos, whose excellent passing and ball skills allowed McGlone to score.
Both teams came out in the first half with aggressive play, with Davidson putting up seven shots and the Dukes making six shots. Both teams came away a first half goal, beginning with Zeballos, who tapped in a bouncing ball off a Myles Culley corner kick in the 38th minute.
Duquesne responded quickly after Davidson took the 1-0 lead. Alex Posada equalized in the 43rd minute, leaving the games tied going into the break.
The Wildcats offense picked up in the second half, out shooting Duquesne 10-2 and 17-8 overall. Lucas Beltran made one save on the night, a crucial stop in the 84th minute that held the Davidson lead.
McGlone led the 'Cats with five shots, including four shots on goal, while Aiden Boudro tallied three and Ayman Maadir and Zeballos each took two each.
