DAVIDSON, N.C. — Down 1-0 following an 89th-minute goal by Saint Louis' Tanner Anderson, Davidson's Brady McGlone scored just 23 seconds later to secure a 1-1 draw Saturday night at Alumni Stadium.
Davidson and Saint Louis split the points in their regular-season finale, with both teams having already qualified for the Atlantic 10 Conference postseason. The Wildcats (6-5-5, 4-3-1 A-10) claimed the No. 5 seed in the tournament with the tie and will travel to Rhode Island. Saint Louis (7-4-5, 5-1-2 A-10) needed a win to claim the regular-season championship, but the draw gave the title to Duquesne.
Before the dramatic finish, the match was a tight defensive battle. Both teams went to the locker room at halftime tied 0-0, having recorded three shots apiece with none on target.
The intensity picked up after halftime, with Saint Louis outshooting Davidson 7-2 in the second half to finish with a 10-5 advantage overall. Each goalkeeper finished with one save. Saint Louis was assessed three yellow cards in the second half, while Davidson received three yellow cards in the match.
The scoring broke open in the 89th minute when Saint Louis substitute Luke Ponciroli played a pass through the midfield to Anderson, who sent his shot past Davidson goalkeeper Lucas Beltran at the 88:27 mark.
The Wildcats answered immediately off the ensuing kickoff. Myles Culley carried the ball into the attacking third and served a pass into the box to McGlone, who controlled the midair ball before volleying it into the back of the net at 88:50.
The result marked Davidson's first positive outcome against Saint Louis since Oct. 21, 2017, when the Wildcats earned a 1-0 road victory.
