JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jack Burns' goal with three minutes and 57 seconds left in the second overtime lifted Jacksonville to a 2-1 victory over Davidson in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday evening at Southern Oak Stadium.

Wrapping up their season-long four-game road trip, the Wildcats fall to 5-4-1 overall, while JU improves to 2-5-1.

"Jacksonville is a good team, better than their record let on; with some quality players and were due for a win," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear.

Despite the loss, Davidson finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots, including seven on frame. The Dolphins made the most of their opportunities, finding the back of the net with two of their three shots on goal.

"Overall we allowed just nine shots, which is not bad for an away game. But on both of JU's goals we did not mark well inside the 18."

For the second straight contest, the Wildcats found themselves in an early deficit after giving up a seventh minute strike. Nathan Dalton gave the Dolphins' the 1-0 advantage with his first goal of the season on an assist from Juan Arguedas.

"Allowing an early goal has been a bad habit this season. It gives our opponent belief."

After threatening with a number of chances, Davidson finally got on the board in the 65th minute, when Valeriy Sviderskiy evened the score with his sixth goal in the last seven games. Drew Brown played a cross from the right side to the sophomore, who gathered, fought through some contact and put away his 10th career goal.

"Even allowing two goals in 106 minutes, we had some great chances other than Val's goal," Spear said.

The Wildcats' best chance to equalize in the first half came when Alan Reiter played a back heal kick to Chris Pettiglio, who struck a shot right at the Dolphins' keeper from point blank range.

Davidson's Jake Keator also hit the post in the opening half.

"We got behind their outside backs several times but couldn't connect well enough inside the goal mouth." Spear said.

Shane Macnamara paced the Wildcats with three shots, including two on goal.

Marc Meny led both keepers with a game-high six saves, while Matt Pacifici stopped one for Davidson.

"We are having a positive season and each day is an opportunity, each game is a puzzle. Today we didn't fully solve the questions, but still convinced there are resources in the result."

Davidson returns to Alumni Stadium Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. contest against Big South foe Liberty.
