DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson will play three straight at Alumni Stadium to conclude the regular season beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against Southern Conference foe Elon Saturday evening.
"Elon is the defending champ and is having another good season, so it will be an exciting opportunity and key Southern Conference match-up for us," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear.
Coming off a 4-0 setback at No. 14 Wake Forest Tuesday, the Wildcats enter 6-8-1 overall and 1-3-0 in league play.
Looking for its first goal in over 269 minutes of action, Davidson is led by sophomore Valeriy Sviderskiy with six goals and 12 points, while fellow forward Max Pragnell paces the club with six assists to go along with a strike.
"Our players need to show a hungry response to our recent run of form. We need to compete to the fullest for the entire match," Spear said.
After opening the 2013 campaign 9-1-1, Elon has dropped three of its last four and enters 10-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the conference following a 3-0 loss at Duke Tuesday.
"We recognize Elon, but more importantly we need to focus on our own preparation and our mindset."
Jason Waterman, who ranks second in the SoCon in total points with 18, leads the Phoenix with six goals and six assists. As a team, Elon is allowing less than a goal per contest.
Elon, which won both meetings last year, including a 2-1 victory in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament, leads the all-time series, 8-3-0.
"A focused, sharp performance and an assertive, hard-fought battle can create a big win and a wave of momentum," said Spear.
Davidson will step out of conference play one final time when Virginia Tech visits 1992 Team Field Tuesday for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
