DAVIDSON, N.C. – In a tightly contested matchup, Davidson and High Point traded first-half goals as the two teams battled to a 1-1 (2OT) draw in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.
With the tie, the 'Cats remain unbeaten moving to 4-0-1, matching their best start since the 2013 campaign.
For the fourth straight contest, a Wildcat netted their first career goal as Ned Morrissett scored on a half volley off a Quinn Dudek cross in the 22nd minute.
Not long after, Justen Shear provided the equalizer for High Point (2-2-1) in similar fashion with the assist coming from Bana Ganidekam.
The Wildcats held a slim 12-11 edge in shots, while both sides finished with six corner kicks.
Davidson had a pair of chances in the second half to retake the lead but was unable to capitalize. Cort Coxhead, who converted a try Saturday, missed high with a free kick from 20 yards out and fellow defender Jordan Hill was just wide of frame with a header.
Sam Bissett led both keepers with four saves for the Wildcats.
Up Next
Davidson will conclude its longest homestand of 2017 with a 7 p.m. contest against former Southern Conference foe Wofford on Friday evening.
Postgame Comments from Head Coach Matt Spear
"Proud of the guys to remain unbeaten and grind out a tie. Not a beautiful game of flowing soccer tonight, but that can sometimes happen when the intensity rises and fatigue sets in. High Point is both skillful and athletic, so we had to work very hard to successfully limit their chances."
"Once again our backline was solid."
"We started well this game, and that was one of our areas of emphasis. We were smart to get forward together and not let the opponent gain rhythm. And that positive beginning paid off with an awesome one-touch shot from Ned that was both powerful and perfectly placed."
"At halftime, we talked about getting to the endline more and that resulted in earning both corner kicks and attacking throw-ins, both important in a match where set pieces were crucial."
"It was good for Drew Krueger and Quinn to get their first career starts, and that underlines our team's depth and trust."
