DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson will play its final non-conference match of the season Tuesday evening when the Wildcats travel to Winston-Salem to take on No. 2 Wake Forest at 7 p.m.
"It's always a treat to take on an ACC team," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "I give Bobby (Coach Muuss) a lot of credit in his first year back as Head Coach for getting their squad rolling so well. They are talented, plus their drive and cohesion are sharp so it's a wonderful opportunity for us to take on such a competitive team."
Despite last year's contest being canceled due to severe thunderstorms, the two teams have met on the pitch 32 times.
Davidson, which dropped a 1-0 decision at Saint Louis over the weekend, enters 5-7-3 overall.
"Our guys should enter the game with big smiles and eyes wide open to feast on an exciting break from A-10 Conference battles at this part of the season."
"For me, the added bonus is that I grew up a few blocks from Wake and was a campus rat as a ball kid for their basketball and soccer teams, attended their camps, and even delivered the newspaper on campus. My parents and many friends still live there, so it's still a part of me."
Along with their preseason matchup against then-No. 2 North Carolina, tomorrow night's meeting marks the fifth for the Wildcats against a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
Davidson is unbeaten in its last six (4-0-2) against ACC competition.
Valeriy Sviderskiy and Alec Rotunda continue to lead the Wildcats in scoring with nine total points, while fellow forward Maxi Pragnell has a team-high five assists.
Riding a nine-game unbeaten streak, the Demon Deacons come in 12-1-2 overall following a 2-1 victory over No. 4 Notre Dame. Wake's lone setback this season came to nationally-ranked Elon (1-0, Sept. 15), which also blanked the Wildcats earlier in the year.
As a team, Wake Forest has scored 35 goals (2.33 per game), while only allowing seven (0.47 per game).
Jack Harrison, who is one of four Demon Deacons with at least five goals scored in 2015, paces the club with 19 points (5G, 9A).
