DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson volleyball team will step out of Atlantic 10 conference play as it welcomes North Carolina A&T to Belk Arena Tuesday, Oct. 13 for a 6 p.m. match.

About Davidson
The Wildcats carry a 7-11 overall record and a 2-3 conference record into their midweek contest. Davidson is averaging 10.4 kills per set, to go along with a .162 team hitting percentage. The Wildcats have stepped up defensively, leading the conference with 2.58 blocks per set, which ranks 35th in the nation.Davidson is averaging 14 digs per set, which is third among conference leaders.

Last Time Out
Davidson (7-11, 2-3 Atlantic 10) will look to get back into the win column Tuesday night after falling to VCU, 3-1, last weekend.

The defeat came by set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 20-25 and 23-25. Kelly Friers paced the offense for Davidson (7-11, 2-3 A-10), finishing the night with 10 kills, .172 hitting percentage and a block solo.Sabrina Shepherd contributed eight kills while hitting .438 on the night.

Mikayla Derochie registered a double-double with 16 digs and 19 assists with Mason Rooney totaling 17 helpers. Emily Franklin and Rooney combined for 11 of the team's 14 total blocks.

The Hitters
Davidson has benefited from a balanced attack thanks to a trio of freshmen - Mason Rooney, Sabrina Shepherd and Ciera Cockrell. Rooney is averaging a team-best 1.94 kills per set to go along with a .230 hitting percentage. Shepherd has turned in 2.02 kills per set, while hitting at the .366 plateau, which ranks second among conference leaders. Cockrell has accumulated 107 kills for a 1.67 average.

Emily Franklin (1.31 kills per set) and Mikayla Derochie (1.09) and Kelly Friers (2.10 kills per set) have also been regular contributors to the attack.

On the Block
Emily Franklin and Sabrina Shepherd have helped Davidson averaged 2.58 blocks per set through the first 18 matches, good for first in the Atlantic 10 and 35th in the nation. Emily Franklin leads the team with 65 total blocks and is fifth in the A-10 with an average of 1.10 blocks per set. Shepherd has recorded 61 total blocks for an average of 1.13 blocks per set, good for fourth among conference leaders.

Setting it Up
Junior Mikayla Derochie and freshman Mason Rooney have shared the setting duties as the team has shifted into a 6-2 offensive system. Derochie has dished out 274 assists for an average of 4.28 per set, while Rooney has tallied 272 helpers for a 4.25 average.

Scouting North Carolina A&T (4-9, 2-3 MEAC)
The Aggies have lost two straight matches and four of its last six to fall to 4-9 on the year, 2-3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Brooke Stamnes leads the attack with 2.98 kills pet set, the eighth-highest average in the MAEC conference. Kalya Finnerty and Liz Martino have split setting duties for the Aggies, averaging 7.62 assists per set and 5.33 assists per set, respectively. Finnerty's average ranks seventh among conference leaders.

Defensively, North Carolina A&T relies on Ashley Johnson who has registered 178 digs so far this season for a 3.79 average, which ranks fifth. Alyssa Pitt is a force at the net, tallying 44 total blocks for a 0.96 block per set average, good for fifth.

Davidson will return to action for a two-game road swing against Atlantic 10 foes Dayton and Saint Louis. The Wildcats will first visit Dayton Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m., before taking on Saint Louis, Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
