Davidson Falls to Fordham in Five

BRONX, N.Y. – Ariyana Johnson's efficient performance on the court was not enough to hold off Fordham on Sunday afternoon. The 'Cats fell to the Rams in five sets despite Johnson's 11 kills and a .421 hitting percentage.
Davidson took the opening set 25-22 and posted a .243 team hitting percentage, its highest in a set today. Fordham responded with a 25-22 victory in the second set.
The third set was also very tight. Neither team had a lead larger than three points. With the score at 24-24, Jackie Bardin recorded back-to-back kills and the 'Cats took a two-sets-to-one lead.
In the fourth, Ariyana Johnson delivered a critical kill to give the Wildcats a 22-18 advantage, but the Rams fought back. The Wildcats had match point at 24-23, but could not finish off the Rams. Fordham edged out the fourth set 28-26.
Jackie Bardin notched a kill in the fifth set to bring Davidson within two points, 11-9, however Fordham answered and scored four of the final five points to win the match.
Bardin finished with six kills and only one error. Meile Songaila registered her third double-double of the season with 14 kills and 11 digs. Mia Compas, Elena Garcia-Guerrios, Anna Withee, and Ariyana Johnson also had double-digit kill totals.
The 'Cats had eight service aces. Songaila and Kinsey Smith each had two.

Davidson is back on the road Nov. 8-9 against Duquesne. First serve on Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the match on Sunday starts at Noon in Pittsburgh.
