DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson volleyball team is set to embark on a 10-day adventure to Europe from May 18-28. The trip consists of various sightseeing tours and the team will play three matches across Germany, Austria, and Croatia. Check out the adventure by following the official team Instagram account (@DavidsonVB).
"Because our scholar-athletes are training year-round, many of them don't have the opportunity to have an international experience," said head coach Chris Willis. "I am excited to provide our team a unique opportunity to explore and grow together. This trip will bond us even more and hopefully we get challenged outside of our comfort zone."
This is the third international trip for the volleyball program under head coach Chris Willis. The Wildcats went to Italy in 2016 and explored Portugal as well as Spain in 2022.
"The upcoming trip to Germany, Austria, and Croatia is one that not many volleyball programs get to do," said head coach Chris Willis. "It will give us a range of very unique experiences related to culture and volleyball."
SIGHTSEEING EXPERIENCES
Davidson is going to play a match in the Munich area (Germany), Vienna area (Austria), and Split area (Croatia) during this adventure.
"Our travel company (AIST) arranges all our competitions and has done a great job of matching us up with teams that are at, or above, our current level," explained Coach Willis. "We should be challenged in ways that our players don't even realize yet. We'll be playing with a different type of volleyball and with slightly different rules."
The Wildcats will play against teams with an age range of 18 to 36.
The first match will take place in Germany against VOLLEYBALL PLANEGG on May 20. The second match will take place in Austria against USP PANTHERS VOLLEYBALL on May 23. The final match of the trip will be in Croatia against Ženski odbojkaški klub Sinjon on May 26.
"The styles of play will be different and the facilities will be very different from what we are used to seeing," said Coach Willis. "I'm looking forward to see how we deal with the adversity and challenges."
