Davidson Rallies to Down N.C. A&T, 3-1

DAVIDSON, N.C. – After dropping the first set, Davidson rallied to defeat North Carolina A&T at John M. Belk Arena Tuesday night. The victory came by set scores of 17-25, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22.
Freshman Sam Thompson had a big night, turning in a team-high eight kills to go with a .161 hitting percentage, 10 digs and two blocks. Grace Schlicht registered seven kills, while Ciera Cockrell chipped in five strikes.
Gaylen Fronk, meanwhile, finished with 13 assists, four digs and a service ace. Morgan Shannon led the defensive charge with 28 digs, while Davidson finished the match with four blocks.
The two sides traded points to open the first set, before North Carolina A&T pulled away with a 3-1 run, 15-13. The Aggies scored seven consecutive points to close out the set, 25-17.
Davidson evened the match in the second, however, using a 5-2 spurt down the stretch to secure the frame, 25-18, and build momentum heading into the third.
The Wildcats set the tone early, opening a 10-3 lead punctuated by five consecutive kills. The margin never dipped below three for the duration of the frame as Schlicht gave the Wildcats set point with a comfortable edge, 25-19.
The Aggies raced out to a 5-1 lead early in the fourth, but a 4-2 spurt late in the set helped the Wildcats pull even, before two kills from Sabrina Shepherd lifted Davidson to a 25-22 set win.
The Wildcats return to action this weekend with a two-game road swing to Dayton and Saint Louis. Davidson will first visit Dayton on Friday, Oct. 16 for a 7 p.m. showdown, before taking on the Billikens Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
