DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson will begin its final week of the 2013 regular season with a 7 p.m. contest against Virginia Tech Tuesday evening at Alumni Stadium.
Looking to end a five-game slide, the Wildcats enter 6-9-1 overall following a 3-2 double-overtime setback to Elon over the weekend.
"The season is crammed full of games and you are forced to have a short memory and focus solely on the next opponent," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear.
In a back-and-forth contest, the Phoenix netted a goal 49 seconds into the final extra session to break the tie. Max Pragnell and Jake Keator each netted their second goals of the season for the Wildcats in the loss.
Sophomore Valeriy Sviderskiy continues to lead Davidson in scoring with six goals, which also ranks fifth in the league. Pragnell is second on the club with six assists and a pair of strikes.
"So the players and coaches are very much dedicated to the task at hand – and what a great opportunity to host another ACC team," Spear commented.
Coming off a 3-2 loss to conference-foe N.C. State Friday, the Hokies are 4-5-5 on the season.
Robert Alberti paces Virginia Tech in goals (6), assists (2) and shots (43).
"Virginia Tech has the athleticism and commitment you expect from an ambitious program."
As a team, the Hokies are averaging as well as allowing just over a goal per contest.
Despite trailing the all-time series 3-2-0, Davidson won the last meeting, 1-0, during the 2010 season.
"We need to begin the match with the right mentality that we will fight for each play, that we will stay connected across the field, and that we will step up in the crucial moments in the offensive and defensive goal mouths," said Coach Spear.
The Wildcats will conclude the regular season with a 7 p.m. kick-off against Appalachian State Friday on 1992 Team Field.
