DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a trio of players hitting .400 or better and matching Western Carolina's 58 kills, Davidson couldn't overcome 28 team errors and fell to the Catamounts 3-1 in Southern Conference action Friday evening at Belk Arena. The Wildcats dropped the match with set scores of 21-25, 28-26, 23-25 and 16-25.

The loss drops Davidson to 12-11 overall and 3-6 in league play. The Catamounts move to 16-7 overall and 6-3 in the SoCon.

Tindall Sewell and Caroline Brown each notched 14 kills apiece, with Brown adding 14 digs for a double-double in addition to a pair of blocks. Sewell hit .423 with a team-high three blocks. Megan Chamberlin hit a team-best .444 with nine kills, also digging seven balls and recording an ace. Davidson hit .174 with 7.0 blocks.

Taylor Pisel slammed down eight kills with a pair digs and Emily Franklin struck with seven kills, hitting .263 in addition to a block and block assist. Mikayla Derochie assisted on 44 of the team's 58 kills, just missing a double-double with nine digs. She hit .400 with a pair of kills in the match. Morgan Shannon stepped in at libero for the match, leading the squad with 16 dug balls while Anastasia Owen added 10.

Jordan Timmerman led the Catamounts with 23 kills, followed by Caitlin Piechota's 12 kills. Cristina Nazario had 45 assists and 12 digs, while Morgan Cochran led the team by digging 26 balls. Paige McConlogue had 23 digs, and Nicole Ford and Addy George combined for eight block assists. Western Carolina hit .238 with 9.0 blocks.

WCU took a five-point lead early in the first set at 11-6, rattling off four more in a row to make it a 15-8 advantage. Another 4-0 spurt made it an 8-point advantage before Franklin came up with a kill to end the streak. Sewell added a pair of kills, but the Wildcats couldn't catch up and fell 25-21.

A trio of early kills by Pisel, capped by another from Sewell, helped Davidson to a 12-9 lead to start set two. However, the Catamounts came up with three straight scores to knot the match at 13-13. Sloppy play on the part of the Wildcats aided WCU in taking a 21-18 lead, but Davidson battled back with a pair of kills by Brown to tie the game at 24-24. The squads traded points until a Catamount error and a kill by Chamberlin put the set away for the Cats with a 28-26 win to tie the match 1-1.

Three straight points made it a 12-7 set in favor of the Catamounts to start the third set, as Davidson called timeout. The Cats made it three in a row to cut into the deficit, making it a 2-point game at 16-14. Kills from Chamberlin and Brown narrowed WCU's lead to one before and ace from Brown and a kill by Derochie evened the score late in the set, 23-23. But Western Carolina followed a timeout with back-to-back Timmerman kills in earning the 25-23 set win.

WCU rolled through five straight points to start the fourth and final set before Brown came up with a kill to end the streak. However, the Catamounts quickly rattled off four more to take an early 9-3 lead. Davidson put up a three in a row, including an ace from Chamberlin, in cutting the deficit to just three at 13-10. A slew of Wildcat errors helped the Catamounts stretch their lead to 17-10 before five straight points put the score at 22-11. Sewell and Chamberlin came up with late kills for the Wildcats, but it was too little, too late as Timmerman slammed home the final kill to give the set to the Catamounts 25-16 along with the 3-1 set win.

Davidson will return to the court Saturday afternoon to host Appalachian State in the squad's annual Halloween match. The in-state SoCon rivals will face off at 2 p.m. at Belk Arena.
