Wildcats to Host WCU, App. State

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Wildcats are set to welcome in state rivals Western Carolina and Appalachian State to Belk Arena this weekend, with the latter match serving as the squad's Halloween game.  Davidson will host the Catamounts at 7 p.m. Friday evening before facing the Mountaineers in a 2 p.m. match Saturday afternoon.
 
Halloween Fun
Saturday's match vs. Appalachian State will be a Halloween celebration. Fans are invited to wear costumes and prizes will be awarded for the best ones (both kids and adults). Winners will receive three free months of Netflix or an iTunes gift card. Fans can also play "Match the Player" to match the volleyball player in costume to the player in uniform for a chance to win prizes from Ben & Jerry's. A bounce house will be on campus for fans 12 and under and the player's will be signing autographs after the match. Also – free candy!
 
Series Histories
Friday is the 43rd all-time meeting between the Cats and the Catamounts since 1986. Davidson leads the series 23-18, though it was WCU that took the first match this year by a close score of 3-2. Davidson enters its 46th all-time match up with Appalachian State, with the Mountaineers holding a 27-18 series advantage. However, the Wildcats have taken the three matches, including a 3-1 victory earlier this season.
 
Scouting the Catamounts
Western Carolina is an impressive 15-7 on the season with a 5-3 conference mark. They lead the league in blocks with 2.40 per set (just .14 ahead of the Wildcats) and in digs with 18.42 per set. Addy George ranks 10th in the SoCon with a .301 hitting percentage and leads the league in blocks with 1.28 per set. Morgan Cochran is also a league leader with 6.18 digs per set, while Jordan Timmerman is fifth in kills with 3.26 per set. Setter Cristina Nazario is fifth in assists with 10.07 per set.
 
Scouting the Mountaineers
Appalachian State enters the match up 12-10 overall and 3-5 in SoCon play. The Mountaineers rank fourth in the SoCon, hitting .223 this season, and are third in assists with 12.16 per set. They also rank third in digs with 16.17 per set. Lauren Gray is the third-best hitter in the league at .363, while Emily Corrigan ranks third in kills with 3.40 per set.  Setter Paige Brown is second with 11.00 assists per set, and teammate Meghan Mahoney is second in digs at 5.29 per set.
