DAVIDSON, N.C. – An Appalachian State offense hitting .325 was too much for the Davidson volleyball team, who fell to the Mountaineers 3-2 in SoCon action Saturday afternoon at Belk Arena. The Wildcats squandered a 2-1 lead as ASU took the match by set scores of 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-24 and 25-6.

A trio of Davidson (12-11, 3-7 SoCon) players finished the match with double figure kills as Megan Chamberlin and Tindall Sewell each tallied 12. Caroline Brown added 11 to go along with a team-best 23 digs for yet another double double. Taylor Pisel rotated in for nine kills, hitting a team-best .500 in the match. The Wildcats hit .160 with 52 kills.

In addition to Brown, Morgan Shannon (18) and Anastasia Owen (11) finished in double digits for dug balls. Mikayla Derochie notched 45 assists with a trio of service aces. She added a block assist as well, thought it was Sewell who led the blocking effort with a pair of solo blocks and a pair of block assists for four total blocks. Franklin posted a solo block and a pair of block assists, while Pisel added two block assists as well. Davidson posted 7.0 team blocks.

Emily Corrigan led the Mountaineers with 26 kills, hitting .367 with 10 kills for a double double. Kat Ferrell had 16 kills, while Paige Brown assisted on 54 of ASU's 71 kills. Megan Mahoney had 32 digs, followed by Brown with 17. Dalton Tolliver had a team-high six block assists as App. State put up 10.0 team blocks.

Derochie put up back-to-back aces in leading the Wildcats to a 6-2 lead in set one. A pair of kills from Corrigan brought ASU within one at 13-11 but three straight points for the Wildcats later in the set helped them pull away for a 21-15 advantage. App. State rattled off five straight points in once again closing the gap to just two at 23-21, but made a pair of crucial errors before Pisel slammed down the set-winning kill as the Wildcats earned the 25-21 victory.

ASU tallied six straight in the opening minutes of set two, taking a 10-5 lead. The teams traded off on scoring until the Mountaineers went on a tear once again, notching four straight to take an 18-9 advantage. Though the teams swapped points once again, it was too late for the Wildcats to play catch up as they fell 25-14.

After battling to a 7-7 tie, Sewell and Brown came up with kills to provide a slim separation at 9-7. Pisel added a pair of scores to help the 'Cats to a 19-15 lead, but the Mountaineers scored five of six to knot the score at 23-23. Franklin and Brown came up with the winning kills as the Wildcats took the set 25-23 for a 2-1 lead.

Appalachian State took six of the first seven points to start the fourth set with a 6-1 lead. Corrigan and Sewell traded kills as the Mountaineers remaining in front 13-8. The Wildcats rallied for four straight scores late in the set, but couldn't make up any more ground as a pair of attacking errors gave ASU the 25-14 win and evened the score at 2-2.

The Mountaineers kept the momentum rolling into the fifth set as Corrigan came up with four kills on five plays to put ASU head 8-4. Franklin tallied a kill for the Wildcats, but Corrigan went off for three straight to push Davidson to the brink. Pisel notched a kill to cut the run short, but App State bounced back with two straight scores to win the set 15-6 and take the match 3-2.

Davidson hits the road next weekend for their farthest SoCon trip of the season. They will take on Samford in Birmingham, Ala., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, before heading to Chattanooga, Tenn., for a re-match with the Mocs Nov. 3.
