Layup Line
• The Wildcats travel to Boone to take on Appalachian State Saturday at 2 p.m.
• It's the only regular-season contest between Appalachian State and Davidson this season.
• Davidson has won 13 of its last 14 SoCon regular-season games, including nine straight, dating back to last season.
• The Wildcats are coming off an 88-67 home win over Western Carolina Thursday night and have won their last four overall.
• The Wildcats are 21-7 in their last 28 games overall, dating back to last season.
Jake Cohen scored 26 points against the Catamounts to go over 1,000 for his career. Fellow preseason All-SoCon selection JP Kuhlman needs three points for the milestone.
• Davidson is 4-3 on the road this season.
• The 'Cats, who have posted nine straight winning seasons, were picked to win the SoCon South Division in the league's Coaches and Media Polls.
• Appalachian State is 3-3 in its last six and coming off a 56-50 home win over Furman Thursday.
• The Mountaineers are 5-1 at home and 2-0 in home league games.
• Appalachian State was picked second in the North Division in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers earned two first-place votes.

Series History
• Davidson leads the all-time series 37-32, but Appalachian State has won the last three meetings.
• The Mountaineers swept the season series in 2009-10, becoming the first SoCon team to sweep the regular-season series against Davidson since the 2000-01 campaign.
• The series began with a 52-49 Wildcat victory in the 1945-46 season.
• The 'Cats are 15-8 on the road, 6-2 at the Holmes Center and 21-15 against Appalachian State under Bob McKillop.
Last time: Omar Carter led all scorers with 25 points, and Appalachian State shot 55 percent in the second half to earn a 74-66 victory over Davidson in Belk Arena.
Jake Cohen led the Wildcats with 18 points and nine rebounds, and Brendan McKillop scored 12 points, all in the second half. JP Kuhlman finished with nine points and five assists, and De'Mon Brooks scored eight.
• Carter was 9-for-17 from the floor in the game and 6-for-8 in the second period. He added a team-high seven rebounds, and Donald Sims netted 14 points and four assists.
• The Wildcats whittled an 11-point Mountaineer lead down to 62-57 following a 3-pointer on the wing from Kuhlman with two minutes to go. The 'Cats played good defense, but Carter knocked down a triple from the corner with the shot clock winding down, pushing the lead to eight with 1:20 remaining.
Last time in Holmes: Sims scored 25 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead Appalachian State to a 66-56 SoCon win over Davidson in 2010.
• Sims was 9-for-14 shooting for the night to pace the Mountaineers, while Kellen Brand and Marcus Wright each finished with 10 points, and Josh Hunter pulled down 10 boards for the Mountaineers.
• Davidson led 30-28 at halftime on the strength of 12 first-half points, all 3-pointers, from Bryant Barr. Appalachian took control with a 47-40 lead midway through the second period, after four ties and two lead changes, and led the rest of the way.
• Barr's fifth trey came with just under two minutes to play, pulling Davidson within six, but Sims knocked down a pair of free throws and recorded the final basket to secure the win.
• Barr finished with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 5-for-7 from downtown. Jake Cohen and Will Archambault, who recorded his 1,000th point of his Davidson career on a free throw four minutes and 47 seconds into the game, also scored in double figures for Davidson, finishing with 10 points each.

Last Time Out
• Davidson forward Jake Cohen scored 26 points to go over 1,000 for his career and lead the Wildcats to an 88-67 win over Western Carolina Thursday night.
• Cohen, who came into the game with 987 career points, took care of the milestone early as the junior scored the Wildcats' first 13 points of the game. His 13th point came on a 3-pointer from the top of the key just 3:56 into the contest and gave Davidson a 13-5 lead.
• He finished the night 8-for-13 from the floor and 4-for-4 from 3-point range while registering six rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots. Chris Czerapowicz posted 13 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots for the Wildcats, and Clint Mann scored 11.
JP Kuhlman, Cohen's roommate had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. The fellow junior now needs three points to reach 1,000 for his career. Nik Cochran and De'Mon Brooks each scored eight, and Cochran added a game-high seven assists.
• The Wildcats had 18 assists on 24 made baskets and committed just four turnovers. Davidson also blocked a season-high seven shots on the defensive end and held the Catamounts to 38 percent shooting from the field, including 29 percent in the second half.
• Harouna Mutombo led Western Carolina with 17 points and posted eight rebounds. Brandon Boggs scored 13 points, and Tawaski King collected nine points and eight rebounds.
• Davidson used a 12-2 run midway through the first half to open a 37-22 cushion. Trailing by 14, the Catamounts went on an 11-3 run to trim the margin to six with 1:48 left in the period. James Sinclair scored four points, and Boggs capped the run with a triple.
• But Davidson responded by scoring the last six points of the half as Kuhlman made a 3-pointer, and Czerapowicz got a layup. A 15-2 spurt midway through the second frame opened a 73-49 cushion for Davidson. Tyler Kalinoski and Kuhlman capped the run with consecutive triples.

Claw Marks
• Davidson returns seven of its top eight scorers and four starters from last season. Players who accounted for 81 percent of the team's scoring and 87 percent of the team's rebounding are back in uniform this year.
• The same player has led Davidson in scoring in consecutive games on just three occasions this season - JP Kuhlman (Presbyterian, UNCW) and Jake Cohen (Wofford, Furman and Georgia Southern, Western Carolina).
• The Wildcats rank first in the nation in team free-throw percentage (.809), and Nik Cochran ranks first in the country (.932). Cochran, De'Mon Brooks, Jake Cohen and JP Kuhlman all rank in the top-7 in the SoCon.
• Davidson has made 20 or more free throws in seven games this season.
• According to NCAA RPI, Davidson's non-conference strength of schedule ranks fifth in the country.
• By defeating Kansas 80-74 Dec. 19, the Wildcats defeated a ranked opponent for the first time since topping Wisconsin 73-56 in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
•  It was Davidson's first win over a ranked opponent in the regular season since defeating No. 15 South Carolina Jan. 12, 1974.
•  It was the 'Cats' first win over a ranked opponent on the road since defeating No. 17 St. John's 88-84 Jan. 4, 1972.
JP Kuhlman has been named to the Cousy Award watch list. The award is given annually to the nation's best point guard.
• The 'Cats have won 30 of their last 33 against non-conference competition at Belk Arena and are 38-6 since 2003.
• Davidson hit all of its free throws (14-for-14) against Duke Nov. 18, for the first time since 2008 (Appalachian State, 6-for-6).
• The Wildcats have led at halftime in 13 games this season.
• Davidson has a 6-4 record in non-conference games with one non-league game left (BracketBuster).
• Davidson did not give up a 3-pointer at UNCW Nov. 26 (0-for-3).
• The 'Cats' game against Georgia Southern Jan. 7, was the 300th in Belk Arena, which opened in 1989. Davidson won the contest 96-74.

In-Season Honors
• Three different Wildcats have been named SoCon Player of the Week this season.
Jake Cohen has won the award twice. He was named SoCon Player of the Week Dec. 6, after averaging 21 points and six boards in a pair of league wins over Wofford and Furman. He also earned the honor Jan. 10, after averaging 19 points and 7.5 rebounds in two wins. In addition, CollegeSportsMadness.com named him its SoCon Player of the Week.
•  Nik Cochran earned the honor Dec. 20, after leading Davidson with 21 points in an 80-74 win over No. 12 Kansas. CollegeSportsMadness.com also named him National Mid-Major Player of the Week and SoCon Player of the Week.
•  JP Kuhlman was named SoCon Player of the Week Nov. 29, after scoring 21 points to lead Davidson to a 70-67 victory at UNC Wilmington.
De'Mon Brooks was named All-SoCon for the month of November by CollegeHoops.net. The sophomore has also been named to the CollegeHoops.net All-SoCon Team (Pre-league play edition).
Chris Czerapowicz was named the CollegeSportsMadness.com SoCon Player of the Week Jan. 2, after netting a career-high 23 to lead Davidson to a 75-70 victory over Penn.

Davidson Milestone Watch
Jake Cohen is 52 blocked shots away from breaking the school record. Frank Ben-Eze needs 24 to crack the top-10.
• Cohen needs 146 rebounds to crack the top-20.
