'Cats Outlast Gardner-Webb 11-10

It's the fourth straight win for the Wildcats, who improved to 8-7, while Gardner-Webb fell to 10-7.
The Wildcats led 4-0 after an inning, thanks to six hits in the first, but needed a spark after the Runnin' Bulldogs pulled in front with a four-run fourth.
That's when Lietz drove in three by doubling to left center, pushing the Wildcats ahead 8-6. Their lead grew to three runs twice, but Hoyt entered a one-run game in the ninth. He struck out the first two batters he faced on seven pitches, then forced a flyout to end it and earn his third save.
Lietz finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Fredy Diaz and Scotty Edwards had two hits apiece.
Garrett Pyne started and threw two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Reliever Simon Yochum navigated a one-out, bases-loaded situation in the seventh.
Up Next
The Wildcats will open Atlantic 10 play at home against Fordham this weekend.
