With the victory, the Wildcats salvaged one game in the Atlantic 10 series and improved to 25-23 overall and 16-11 in the A-10. Rhode Island (22-27) fell to 15-12 in league play.
Davidson fell behind early Sunday and trailed 15-5 after the top of the fifth and 15-8 entering the bottom of the seventh. But to turn the tide, the Wildcats scored 12 runs on eight hits — and with the help of five consecutive walks — in the seventh to pull ahead.
Anthony Torreso led the way Sunday with six RBIs and hit a grand slam in the second inning, his fourth home run of the series and his sixth in the last four games. He also singled and doubled in runs in the seventh.
Will Brooks had the first four-hit game of his career, going 4-for-4 and highlighted by a solo home run in the eighth.
Matthew Vannoy had the go-ahead two-RBI double in the seventh, and Jamie Daly followed with a carbon copy two-run double down the right field line. Matt Manjooran and Aidan Rice also singled in runs in the decisive inning.
Scotty Edwards joined Torreso with three hits on a day when nine Wildcats drove in runs and six drove in at least two.
On the mound, Matt Hamilton got the win. He threw three innings and allowed two earned runs, before handing the ball to Garrett Pyne to end it (2 IP, 2 ER, 2 Ks).
Davidson's previous season high was 19 runs against St. Bonaventure on April 11. The Wildcats had twice scored a previous season-best nine runs in an inning, including in Friday's first inning against the Rams.
Rhode Island hit five home runs Sunday, including two by Jack Hopko and a grand slam from Ryan King.
