5/18/2026 6:09:00 PM | Baseball
Making its ninth appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Davidson baseball team will face VCU Wednesday afternoon to open play in the six-team, double-elimination event at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.
The sixth-seeded Wildcats are 25-26 overall and 16-14 in league play and will meet the No. 3 Rams at 3 p.m. in the tournament's second game.
The teams met last weekend in the final series of the regular season, with VCU winning all three games in Richmond.
The A-10 postseason berth is the Wildcats' second straight and their fourth in the last five seasons (also 2022, 2023).
Davidson is seeking its second A-10 Tournament championship after winning it in 2017.
The Wildcats also won a regular season championship in 2022.
A-10 TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• The No. 6 seed worked out well for the Wildcats in 2017, as they went 5-1 to win the event in St. Louis.
• That magical 2017 postseason run ultimately ended with an NCAA Chapel Hill Regional championship and a trip to the College Station Super Regionals.
• The Wildcats are 18-15 all-time in the A-10 Tournament and have won at least a game in each postseason.
• Last year, the Wildcats were 2-2 in the event, posting wins over Saint Joseph's and Dayton and losing to Rhode Island and Goerge Mason.
• Davidson is 4-8 against this year's tournament field, including 2-1 against George Mason, 1-2 against Rhode Island and Richmond and 0-3 against VCU.
• The Wildcats did not play top-seeded Saint Joseph's during the league's 10-series schedule.
• It's the second straight year the Wildcats did not play the tournament's top seed (Rhode Island, 2025) during the regular season.
LEAGUE LEADERS
• The Wildcats lead the A-10 with 15 triples and rank second with a .402 on-base percentage.
• Left-handed pitcher Cooper Cavanaugh leads the A-10 with 6.24 hits allowed per nine innings and in opponents' batting average (.194). He's second with 11.14 strikeouts per nine.
• Infielder/outfielder Matt Manjooran ranks second with four triples.
• Anthony Torreso (42) and Matthew Vannoy (41) are third and fifth, respectively, in walks.
