'Cats Visit VCU in Final A-10 Series

The 10th and final Atlantic 10 Conference series has arrived for the Davidson baseball team, which visits VCU beginning Thursday afternoon.
The Wildcats and Rams will conclude the regular season with three afternoon games at The Diamond, while also jockeying for position for the A-10 Tournament, which begins May 20.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 25-23 overall and 16-11 in the A-10 following a 2-1 series loss to Rhode Island last weekend.
• The Wildcats are alone in fourth place in the jammed league standings, a game behind VCU and Richmond and a game ahead of George Mason and Rhode Island.
• To secure a berth in the six-team A-10 Tournament, the Wildcats need to win one game at VCU or have Fordham drop a game at St. Bonaventure.
• Davidson is vying for its second straight A-10 postseason berth and its ninth overall.
• Also in A-10 play, the Wildcats have earned two sweeps (St. Bonaventure, George Washington), won three series (Dayton, George Mason, Saint Louis) and dropped three other series (Fordham, La Salle, Richmond).
• Catcher/designated hitter Anthony Torreso was named A-10 Player of the Week on Monday after hitting .667 (8-for-12) with a 2.555 OPS, four home runs and 13 RBIs in the three-game Rhode Island series.
• Torreso also drew five walks in the series, and he's now the league leader with 42 walks. He has a 1.008 OPS and leads the team with 12 homers and 50 RBIs.
• The Wildcats have the best on-base percentage (.405) and the most triples (14) in the A-10.
• Infielder/outfielder Matt Manjooran is hitting a team-best .342 and ranks second in the A-10 with four triples.
• Outfielder Jamie Daly is hitting .338 with a 1.087 OPS and 11 homers and has a team-best 13 stolen bases.
• Starting pitcher Cooper Cavanaugh is the league leader with 6.24 hits allowed per nine innings and is second with 11.14 strikeouts per nine.
