Wildcats Top UNCG 7-4 in Midweek Contest

DAVIDSON — Gavin Thomas homered, six Davidson pitchers collectively kept UNC Greensboro at bay and the Wildcats pushed past the Spartans 7-4 on Tuesday night at Wilson Field.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 2-2, while UNCG fell to 0-4.
Thomas hit a two-run blast in the second inning to tie the game at 2-all, and the Wildcats pulled away with two runs off two hits and two errors in the sixth. Aidan Rice's sacrifice fly, after a Matt Manjooran double, provided an insurance run in the seventh.
Matthew Vannoy led the Wildcats with three hits, while Manjooran, Thomas, Forrest Lietz and Theo Loughlin had two hits apiece.
Right-hander Garrett Pyne started and made his debut after two seasons sidelined by injury. Will Marenghi earned his second win, and Ivan Hoyt closed the door with a two-inning save, his first.
