RICHMOND, Va. – Jordan King hit three free throws with two seconds left to lift league-leading Richmond over Davidson, 66-63, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Saturday evening inside the Robins Center.
The setback was the seventh by five or fewer points in A-10 play for the Wildcats, who fall to 15-12 overall and 5-9 in the conference.
After a Grant Huffman triple as the shot clock expired evened the score, 49-49, the Spiders took advantage of a lengthy Davidson scoring drought to push the margin back to seven, 58-51 with 4:28 to play.
As they did all night, the Wildcats responded, this time with a 12-5 spurt highlighted by a Bobby Durkin trey with 14 ticks left, to deadlock things at 63-all.
But, on the very next trip, King was fouled on a 3-point attempt, which set up the game-winning free throws.
Despite the loss, Reed Bailey led the way for the Wildcats with his third double-double of the season scoring a game-high 23 points to go with 11 rebounds. Angelo Brizzi and Connor Kochera also scored in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.
King paced Richmond (20-7, 12-2) with 15 points in 37 minutes of action.
Both teams finished the game shooting just over 40 percent from the floor.
Richmond got consecutive treys from Isaiah Bigelow to open up a 22-14 lead at the 9:36 mark. The 'Cats clawed their way back tying the game 28-28 on an Brizzi 3-point play before heading to the half down, 31-28.
