4/7/2022 8:27:00 PM | Baseball
The Davidson baseball team will play its first three-game road series of the season this weekend when it visits Atlantic 10 Conference preseason favorite VCU.
The series begins Friday with a 2 p.m. contest at The Diamond.
The Wildcats are 22-5 and one of just two A-10 teams to be 3-0 in the league, joining George Washington, which swept St. Bonaventure.
Davidson posted 8-5, 8-7 (11 innings) and 4-3 wins over Richmond last weekend, before being rained out against Duke on Tuesday.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Last year's league champion, VCU enters 15-12 overall and 2-1 in the A-10 after winning a road series at George Mason last weekend.
After dropping the series opener by a 7-6 score, the Rams won 15-5 and 9-2 games.
The Rams feature redshirt sophomore infielder Tyler Locklear, who last year was named both A-10 Rookie and A-10 Player of the Year. This year, he's leading the Rams with a .313 average, 11 doubles, eight home runs and 28 RBIs.
IN THE RANKINGS
A number of Wildcats continue to lead the A-10 and rank high nationally in both offensive and pitching statistics.
Catcher Michael Carico leads the A-10 and is second nationally in average (.458), on-base percentage (.591) and hit-by-pitches (16) and also leads the league with an .854 slugging percentage (5th nationally).
