ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The Davidson baseball team had everything working Thursday afternoon and swept an Atlantic 10 doubleheader at St. Bonaventure with 15-3 and 10-1 wins over the Bonnies.

The Wildcats (25-20, 13-6 Atlantic 10) hit five home runs and received quality outings on the mound from seniors Casey Sutherland and Allen Barry, who have now combined for 13 wins.

Game 1
Davidson built a 6-0 lead through seven innings, then put the game away with a nine-run ninth. It's the most runs the Wildcats have scored in an inning this season, topping the sixth-run eighth they produced at Wake Forest May 7.

Davidson has scored at least 15 runs three times this season, with a high of 16 against La Salle on March 24.

Trevor Candelaria hit a grand slam to left to highlight the ninth inning. It's the freshman's fifth home run and second grand slam, after he hit one in the season's second game (Feb. 16 vs. Towson).

Justin Lebek had two hits and drove in five, as his two-run triple started the scoring in the first. Matt Frey, Eric Jones and Brett Centracchio had RBI hits, and Centracchio, Lebek and Max Bazin drove in runs with bases-loaded walks.

Sutherland improved to 7-1. He allowed nine hits, three unearned runs, while striking out seven and walking one.

Game 2
Though Bona (13-31, 6-17) struck with a run in the first inning, the Wildcats took over from there.

Ruben Fontes hit his league-leading 13th home run in the second inning to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. Matt Frey and Brett Centracchio hit their eighth homers of the season in the third to make it 5-1, and Justin Lebek hit his 10th in the fifth inning to make it 7-1.

Eric Jones drove in runs on a fourth-inning single and a ninth-inning sacrifice, while Fontes and Frey had RBI-singles in the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Barry threw six innings and allowed three hits and one earned run. He struck out nine —including the side in the fifth — and walked one. Barry retired the final 10 batters he faced before the Wildcats' bullpen closed the door.

Up Next
The third game of the series and the regular season finale is set for 12 p.m. Friday.
