ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Zach Nussbaum's RBI-double in the ninth inning propelled the Davidson baseball team to a 2-1 win at St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon and put the finishing touches on a second Atlantic 10 Conference sweep and the regular season portion of the schedule.

The Wildcats complete the regular season 26-20 and 14-6 in the A-10.

"We pitched exceptionally all three games and for the most part, played good defense," said coach Rucker Taylor. "When we had lapses, they took advantage, but we responded each time. It was a lot of baseball in a short window coming off of an eight-day break. It's a busy time of the year for the guys, but I thought they handled this trip well."

Davidson has secured at least a third-place finish and could place second if Fordham defeats Dayton on Saturday. Either way, it's the best league finish for the Wildcats, who joined in 2014-15 and tied for fourth — their previous best — that season. Davidson has also qualified for the seven-team A-10 tournament, which begins May 22.

"We're proud of the five years we've been in the league, we've made the tournament each season," said Taylor. "Only one, maybe two (depending on Saturday's results) other team(s) can say that. There's some consistency there."

After scoring 25 runs in Friday's dominant twinbill, the Wildcats had to find another route to victory Friday. With the score tied 1-1 in the ninth, Justin Lebek led off with a single and scored two batters later when Nussbaum doubled down the right field line.

Gabe Levy (3-1) then pitched a scoreless ninth and ended the game by striking out Ben MacDonald with runners at first and second.

Davidson took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Brett Centracchio, who reached on a walk,
scored on a wild pitch. The Bonnies (13-32, 6-18) pulled even in the eighth on an RBI-double by Jake Foden.

Starter Josh Hudson threw six innings and allowed three hits. He walked one and struck out eight.

Second baseman Matt Frey was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning, which extended his reached-base streak to 41 games and also set the program's single-season hit-by-pitch record (17).

The series sweep is Davidson's fourth. The Wildcats swept La Salle in the opening A-10 series and also swept non-conference foes Towson and North Alabama.

The A-10 Tournament is being held at Fordham, beginning next Wednesday. The Wildcats will play at either 10 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., depending on final seeding.
