Miller Lifts Davidson To Victory In Inaugural A-10 Game

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Right fielder Lee Miller's RBI single to left center lifted the Davidson baseball team over the La Salle Explorers, 11-10, in a 10-inning contest for the Wildcats' first-ever victory in the Atlantic 10 Friday night at Wilson Field.
Miller stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and sailed one over the shortstop's glove to score catcher Tyler Agard that secured the victory for the Wildcats.
The junior led the squad with two runs, three hits and one RBI in five at bats, while first baseman David Daniels picked up three hits and a run for Davidson.
The Wildcats, who are currently on a four-game winning streak, scored in four of the final six innings to record the come-from-behind win to improve to 11-5 overall and 1-0 in the A-10.
Despite six runs in the third inning, La Salle fell to 9-11 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Both teams collected 13 hits, while Davidson charted two errors on the day.
On the mound, sophomore Clark Beeker started the day off for the Wildcats, pitching the first 5.1 innings, allowing nine runs off nine hits with six strikeouts. Freshman Josh Smutzer capped the day off for Davidson, pitching two-thirds of the final inning for the victory to move to 3-0 on the season off one pitch.
Six pitchers saw the mound for both teams, as Greg Paprocki recorded the loss for La Salle, pitching the final three innings and allowing one run off four hits with three strikeouts.
The Wildcats will return to Wilson Field tomorrow to face the Explorers for game two of the series, starting at 2 p.m.
