DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson baseball team fell to the La Salle Explorers, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field in game two of the weekend series.
The loss was the first for Davidson in five games as it dropped to 11-6 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10.
The Explorers capitalized on 13 hits and four Wildcat errors as they picked up their first conference win of the season and improved to 10-11 overall. Six of the eight La Salle runs were scored in the bottom of the lineup.
The Wildcats collected four hits on the day as Jake Sidwell, Alec Acosta, Lee Miller and Ben Arkin all picked up singles.
Cameron Johnson led both teams with one run, three hits and one RBI in five at bats. Four other Explorers tallied two hits overall.
On the mound, lefty Rob Bain pitched 5.1 innings for Davidson, allowing five runs off nine hits with four strikeouts to drop to 1-2 overall. Freshman Connor Gordon pitched 2.1 innings for the Wildcats and allowed three runs - all unearned - and three hits.
Right-handed pitcher Joey Ravert (4-2) picked up the win for La Salle, allowing four hits with three strikeouts in seven innings.
The Wildcats will return to Wilson Field tomorrow, March 22, to complete the weekend series with the Explorers at 1 p.m.
