Davidson Falls in Straight Sets at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Davidson volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at Duquesne Sunday afternoon. The decision came by set scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20. Davidson falls to 10-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play, while Duquesne improves to 13-13 on the year and 7-5 in the A-10.
Sabrina Shepherd paced the Davidson offense with 12 kills. Emily Franklin and Ciera Cockrell chipped in six strikes each. Mason Rooney tallied 19 assists, while Mikayla Derochie finished with 14 helpers.
Morgan Shannon and Hannah Rau had 11 digs and 10 digs, respectively to help the defense. Emily Franklin led the way with five blocks, while Mikayla Derochie turned in three block assists.
Duquesne sprinted out to a 10-4 lead in the first set, before Davidson rallied to bring the score within one. The Dukes used a 6-3 run to create some breathing room, 21-18, before securing the first set, 25-20
Back and fourth action dominated the second set, which featured nine ties and four lead changes. With the score even at 11-11, the Dukes once again moved in front 16-11, thanks to a 6-0 stretch. Davidson rallied with a 7-1 run of its own down the stretch, but the Dukes held on for a 25-22 second set win.
The Wildcats were forced to play from behind in the third set, as Duquesne opened an 11-5 advantage. The two sides traded points down the stretch, before Davidson registered five consecutive points to even the score at 17. The Dukes went on to take the third set and the match, 25-20.
Davidson returns to action Nov. 13 & 15 when it welcomes Fordham and Rhode Island to John M. Belk Arena.
