After spending the month of September on the road, the Davidson volleyball team returns home to Belk Arena to host the Winthrop Eagles at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. The game comes on the heels of Mikayla Derochie's third consecutive SoCon Freshman of the Week accolade.

THREE IN A ROW FOR DEROCHIE
For the third straight week, Derochie was named the SoCon's top rookie for the week of Sept. 30. The freshman setter posted a new career-high with 53 assists vs. Western Carolina, adding four kills and hitting .667 in the match. She also had 41 assists, 11 digs and four kills vs. Appalachian State. Derochie ended the weekend averaging 10.4 assists per set while hitting .471 and making no errors on 17 attack attempts.

FACULTY/STAFF APPRECIATION
Tuesday's match is faculty/staff night for the Wildcats. All Davidson faculty and staff members who present a Cat Card at the match will be entered in a raffle to win prizes from local businesses such as the Brickhouse, Ben & Jerry's and Our Town Cinemas.

SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW
The Eagles' trip to Belk Arena will be a blast from the past for Davidson assistant coach Emily Carrara, who was a setter for Winthrop from 2003-06. Then known as Emily Heckl, she was a three-time all-conference honoree as a member of four consecutive Big South Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. Carrara was also named the Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2006.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop enters Tuesday's match with a 10-5 record and a 1-1 record in the Big South. The Eagles downed Charleston Southern 3-0 after falling to Coastal Carolina 3-1. The Wildcats and Eagles boast a common opponent in CSU, which Davidson also defeated 3-0 back in late August. Irene Ojukwu leads Winthrop with 3.32 kills per set, hitting .262 on the season. Jessie Vicic is averaging 11.48 assists per set, while Maria Voldstad is the team leader in digs at 2.81 per set.

CAN YOU DIG IT?
The Wildcats rank inside the top-50 of the NCAA in digs per set, coming in 32nd with 16.36 team digs per set. Anastasia Owen is the team leader at 4.38 per set, ranking 95th in the nation. She is followed by Caroline Brown's 3.82 digs per set. Brown ranks in the NCAA top-100 in aces per set (70th with 0.39) while Tindall Sewell is 76th in the nation with 1.2 blocks per set. As a team, the Wildcats rank second in the conference in digs and third in blocks (2.14 per set).

NEXT UP…
Davidson returns to conference action this weekend when the 'Cats host Elon and UNCG at Belk Arena. The 'Cats open with the weekend with a 7 p.m. match vs. the Phoenix Friday evening, following that up with a 2 p.m. tilt vs. the Spartans on Saturday.
