DAVIDSON, N.C. – With a season-low 33 kills, Davidson struggled to find points vs. a solid Elon team and eventually succumbed to the Phoenix, taking a 3-0 loss in Southern Conference action by set scores of 19-25, 16-25 and 17-25 at Belk Arena Friday evening.

The loss puts the Wildcats at 1-2 in league play and 10-6 overall. The Phoenix move to 2-2 in SoCon games with a 10-9 mark overall.

Caroline Brown's double double of 13 kills and 11 digs, her 12th of the season, was a highlight for the Wildcats. Tindall Sewell led the team in hitting at .333 and was second in kills with eight as just one player finished in double figures. Davidson hit .162 as a team.

Anastasia Owen was a defensive leader with 15 digs while Hannah Rau, Mikayla Derochie and Rachel Earnhardt each dug five balls as the team tallied 50 total digs. Emily Franklin was another leader on the defensive side, posting a team-high four block assists as the 'Cats recorded 6.0 team blocks. Derochie also assisted on 28 of the squad's kills.

Hitting .295 with 55 kills, Elon was paced by Cali Estes's 13 kills and 20 assists. Kris Harris added in 12 kills while Megan Gravely finished with 11. Ana Nicksic shared the role of setter with Estes, picking up a team-high 26 assists to go along with 12 digs, thought it was Maggie Reichard who was the defensive leader with 13 dug balls.

After battling to a 12-12 tie to begin the match, the Phoenix used a 4-0 run to create some separation with a 16-12 lead. The squads traded points to a 20-16 Elon advantage before a mini rally by the 'Cats brought them within one at 20-19. But the Phoenix were in it to win it, rattling off five straight to claim set one by a score of 25-19.

Elon jumped out to a 7-3 lead on three straight kills in the following set, though the Wildcats countered with three straight points to put the score at 11-8 in favor of the Phoenix. Another 3-0 run later in the set made it an eight-point advantage for the Phoenix, 20-18, before they claimed set two with a pair of kills, 25-16 for the 2-0 lead.

A 7-0 run once again put the Phoenix in front early at 10-3, and they never looked back from there. The two teams traded points, but the Wildcats couldn't quite overcome the deficit. A final 3-0 rally late in the game was all the Cats could muster as the Phoenix scored two of the final three points with kills to claim the set 25-17 for the 3-0 match win.

Davidson will look to bounce back from the loss Saturday afternoon when they host fellow SoCon squad UNCG. The Wildcats and the Spartans are set to square off at 2 p.m. in Belk Arena in the Cats' annual Dig Pink match for breast cancer awareness.
