GREENVILLE, S.C. – Hitting a season-low .100 as a team, Davidson struggled offensively and couldn't outhit the Furman Paladins, falling 3-0 in a SoCon match at Alley Gym Friday evening. Despite their struggles the Wildcats were able to keep the sets close, falling by scores of 23-25, 22-25, 20-25.

Hannah Rau had a match-high nine digs for the Cats, who fall to 12-9 overall and 3-4 in the SoCon. Rau also added eight digs and a pair of assists while hitting .192 in the contest. Caroline Brown notched seven kills and 10 digs, putting up a pair of block assists.

Tindall Sewell and Taylor Pisel tied for the team lead with four block assists apiece, with Sewell also claiming five kills and hitting .188. Mikayla Derochie assisted on 30 of the squad's 34 kills, chipping in seven digs as well.

Defensively, Anastasia Owen led the team with 17 digs. Emily Franklin had the team's lone solo block and was credited with a trio of block assists as the Wildcats recorded 8.0 team blocks.

Annie Bierman and Christina Dorismond each recorded 12 kills for the Paladins, who boast a 7-1 SoCon record and 12-9 overall mark. Ashton Gregory had nine kills and hit .500 on the night, while setter Jo Wilks came away with 38 assists and 10 digs. Elle Ross dug 18 balls for Furman, while Gregory also came up with a pair of blocks and six block assists. The Paladins hit. 200 with 9.0 team blocks.

After a tight set to start things off the Paladins gradually built a lead, going up 10-7 on a Davidson error. Franklin and Rau added kills, but Furman seemed to stay one step ahead of the Cats. Another pair of kills from Rau and a Paladin miscue brought the Wildcats within one at 20-19 before another Furman error tied the set at 23-23. However, Dorismond slammed down a pair of big kills for the Paladins as they took the set 25-23 for a 1-0 lead in the match.

Furman claimed the first four points of set two, though the Cats came back to tie things up at 6-6. Furman again took a slim advantage at 15-12, but this time Davidson was unable to close the gap. Despite cutting it to a one-point set on a Pisel kill, the Paladins kept rolling and came up with the 25-22 win for the 2-0 advantage in the match.

Once again, the Paladins took a quick lead scoring four straight to go up 6-3 in the third set. Three more in a row put Furman in front 12-8 and forced Davidson to call a timeout. Four straight errors from Furman cut the Davidson deficit and tied the set, 16-16, and another pair of miscues would give the Wildcats the 19-18 advantage. However a pair of Davidson attack errors combined with a pair of Furman blocks would close things out and five the Paladins the 25-20 set victory for the 3-0 set win.

Davidson remains in South Carolina, traveling to Spartanburg for a 2 p.m. match at Wofford Saturday afternoon.
