'Cats Host Rhode Island in Final Home Series

The ninth weekend of Atlantic 10 Conference baseball features Davidson getting a visit from the Rhode Island Rams, beginning Friday afternoon at Wilson Field.
It's the final home series of the season for the Wildcats, who are 15-9 in A-10 play and tied for second with VCU.
Prior to Sunday's contest, Davidson will honor 10 members of the 2026 graduating class, including Will Banks, Brycen Champey, Scotty Edwards, Ed Hall, Ivan Hoyt, Henry Hultquist, manager/bullpen catcher Gabe Mervis, Wilson Perkins, Aidan Rice and Anthony Torreso.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 24-21 overall following last weekend's 2-1 home series loss to Richmond, which ended a streak of five consecutive conference series wins.
• With Rhode Island and VCU left on the schedule, the Wildcats are among nine teams vying for five remaining spots in the six-team A-10 Tournament, for which Saint Joseph's (22-2) has already clinched the top spot. Six of those teams are within two games of each other.
• The Wildcats own 2-1 series victories over Dayton, George Mason and Saint Louis, and they swept St. Bonaventure and George Washington.
• Also in A-10 play, Davidson has dropped series to Fordham and La Salle.
• The Wildcats lead the A-10 with 14 triples and score 6.9 runs per game, which is fourth-best in the league.
• Starting pitcher Cooper Cavanaugh (4.17 ERA) continues to rank among the league leaders in multiple categories and tops the list with 5.44 hits allowed per nine innings. The junior lefty is third with 11.05 strikeouts per nine.
• As a staff, the Wildcats strike out 8.4 batters per nine, fourth in the league.
• Freshman infielder/outfielder Matt Manjooran has made an instant impact in his college career. He leads the Wildcats with a .331 batting average, 58 hits, 11 doubles, four triples, 44 RBIs and 92 total bases. He ranks second in the A-10 in triples and has also blasted five home runs.
• Along with making numerous highlight reel catches in center field, sophomore Jamie Daly is hitting .326 with team-bests in OPS (1.052), home runs (9) and stolen bases (10).
• While mostly in the lineup as the designated hitter this year, redshirt junior Anthony Torreso hit three homers last weekend to take his season total to eight. He's second in the league with 37 walks, joined in the top three by freshman third baseman Matthew Vannoy (36).
