'Cats Host VCU in A-10 Series This Weekend

For the fifth time this season, the Davidson baseball team will play host to a weekend series, this time when Atlantic 10 foe VCU visits Wilson Field for a three-game set.
The Wildcats and Rams will meet at 5 p.m. Friday, with afternoon games to follow on Saturday and Sunday.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 6-13 overall and 2-1 in A-10 play.
• The Wildcats won two of three games against UMass last weekend, including the series finale when Eli Putnam hit a walk-off, three-run home run in a 13-10 win.
• Davidson lost its last outing, however, taking a 13-0 defeat to N.C. State Tuesday in Kannapolis.
• On Monday, freshman center fielder Jamie Daly was named A-10 Rookie of the Week, marking the team's second straight A-10 Rookie honoree (pitcher Jacob Vokal, March 11).
• In the UMass series, Daly hit .462 (6-for-13) with a 1.357 OPS, inlucing a .769 slugging percentage. He also doubled, homered and drove in four runs.
• Daly leads the Wildcats across the board offensively, including with a .367 average, a 1.193 OPS, 22 hits, six doubles, four home runs, 17 RBIs and 42 total bases.
• Sophomore outfielder Cider Canon is hitting .318 with four doubles, three home runs and seven RBIs.
• Senior infielder Jack Cotrone is hitting .300 with three doubles, four homers and 15 RBIs.
• Vokal has set the standard on the mound with a 2.25 ERA and a .193 opponents' batting average in 16.0 innings.
• Davidson has hosted home series against Bryant, Bucknell, Lafayette and UMass.

• VCU is 4-15 overall and 0-3 in the A-10 after being swept by Rhode Island last weekend.
• The Rams have lost six straight games, including a 13-2 defeat to Virginia Tech on Tuesday.
• Picked atop the A-10 in the preseason, the Rams finished second in the league a year ago.
• Catcher Jacob Lee is leading the Rams with a .289 average, a .902 OPS, five doubles, five home runs, 18 RBIs and 42 total bases.
• Owen Tappy (1.35 ERA, 20.0 IP) and Miles Garrett (2.81 ERA, 16.0 IP) are setting the tone on the mound.
• The Rams are led by first-year coach Sean Thompson, a 2018 VCU graduate and former pitcher who helped the program to its first NCAA Regional championship in 2015.
