'Cats Split Doubleheader with Richmond, Win Series

After earning a five-run win in Friday's series opener, the Wildcats took a 9-4 loss in Saturday's first game, then won the rubber match 4-3.
The Wildcats exit the weekend 16-22 overall and 4-8 in the A-10, while Richmond moved to 17-23 and 7-5.
Game 1
Richmond built a 7-1 lead by the fifth inning and held on for a 9-4 season-evening victory.
Eli Putnam went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Davidson. He drove in the Wildcats' first run on an RBI-single in the first, bringing in Noah Jouras, who led off with a triple.
Putnam then drove in another on a double in the fifth, and also in the fifth, two runs came around on a Tyler Douglas double, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
Starter Isaac Fix threw four innings before handing the ball to the bullpen.
Game 2
Putnam's three-run home run to center field in the fourth, his team-leading 10th of the season, was the offensive highlight of the 4-3 win.
Then the Wildcats had to hold off a Spiders threat in the ninth, ultimately closing the game — and Ryan Feczko's first save — on a 4-6-3 double play from Jake Wilhoit to Nick Calero to Putnam.
Wilhoit helped the Wildcats extend their lead to 4-0 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, driving in Putnam, who had doubled.
On the mound, starter Jason Ban threw a scoreless 3.1 innings, before Matt Weber (2.2 IP) and Brycen Champey (2 IP) got the Wildcats into the ninth.
