Baseball Set to Host Brown This Weekend

Home for the fourth straight weekend, the Davidson baseball team will welcome Brown to Wilson Field Friday for a three-game series.
With rain in the forecast, Friday's start time has been moved up to 4 p.m., and it's possible the rest of the series will be affected as well. Follow @DavidsonBase on Twitter for the latest.Â
The Wildcats, now 4-8, have already hosted series against Morehead State (Feb. 16-18), Villanova (Feb. 23-25) and Penn State (March 2-3) this season.
Next weekend, the Wildcats will visit Tennessee Tech.

LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is coming off a 4-1 loss at No. 21 South Carolina on Wednesday. The game ended after six innings because of heavy rain in Columbia.
• With a 14-2 series-opening win over Penn State last weekend, head coach Rucker Taylor earned his 146th career win and moved into second place on the program's all-time wins list. He now trails only Dick Cooke, who led the Wildcats to 590 victories. Taylor's teams are 146-94 (.608) in five-plus seasons.
• Eli Putnam, Michael O'Shaughnessy and Jake Wilhoit are leading the way at the plate. All have hit three home runs.
• Putnam, an infielder, leads in batting average (.359), on-base percentage (.490), slugging percentage (.641) and OPS (1.131). He's also driven in 10 runs.
• Also an infielder, O'Shaughnessy, is hitting .341 with a 1.039 OPS and a team-leading 15 RBIs.
• Wilhoit, an outfielder, is hitting .306 with a 1.027 OPS and 11 RBIs.
• On the mound, frontline starter Wilson Perkins is 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 14.0 innings.
• Out of the bullpen, Matt Weber has set the tone with an 0.84 ERA in 10.2 innings.

• The Bears, of the Ivy League, enter 2-5 after most recently dropping three of four games at Stetson.
• Prior to that, Brown won one of three at Tennessee-Martin.
• Infielder Gunner Boree is the team's top hitter with a .467 average. He's 7-for-15 at the plate and has a 1.262 OPS.
• Infielder DJ Dillehay leads the Bears with six RBIs.
• Outfielder Brady Dever is the only Bear to hit multiple home runs (2) thus far.
• Infielder Miles Newsome was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Feb. 26 after going 4-for-6 with a home run, three walks and three RBIs in the opening weekend.
• Pitcher Paxton Meyers, slated to start the second game of the series, has been the top performer so far with a 3.27 ERA in 11.0 innings.
