Baseball Renews Rivalry at Charlotte Tuesday

A Mecklenburg County baseball rivalry will be renewed Tuesday when the Davidson Wildcats visit Charlotte.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at the 49ers' Hayes Stadium.
It's the teams' first matchup in nearly 20 years. They were scheduled to play in the 2022 season, but rain forced a cancellation.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 1-2 after winning the second game of its three-game series with Morehead State.
• The Wildcats actually outscored the Eagles 23-18 in the weekend, bolstered by their 16-5 win on Saturday.
• Infielder Michael O'Shaughnessy set the tone offensively, hitting .500 (6-for-12) with a 1.433 OPS, a double, a home run and eight RBIs.
• Infielder Eli Putnam hit .400 (4-for-10), homered and drove in four runs.
• Outfielder Jake Wilhoit hit .364 (4-for-11), while Tyler Douglas and Nick Calero hit two doubles apiece.

• Charlotte went 36-28 a year ago and has won at least 35 games in each of the last three seasons.
• The 49ers also made their second NCAA Regional in three seasons and seventh in program history.
• Against Virginia Tech, Noah Furcht (.455) and Carson Bayne (.300) homered and led the 49ers offense.
