'Cats Beat Dayton 8-3, Win Third A-10 Series

DAVIDSON — A five-run inning led to an 8-3 Davidson win — and a series victory — over Dayton Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Winning for the second day in a row, the Wildats improved to 21-13 overall and 7-2 in the Atlantic 10 and notched their third A-10 series win in as many weekends.
The Wildcats' big inning came with two outs, beginning when Jake Wilhoit beat out a throw to first on a would-be, inning-ending double play and allowed Henry Koehler to score from third. Jacob Friend then tripled down the right field line, scoring Wilhoit and Landon Reeves (single), and Nick Calero followed with a two-run homer to left, making it 5-0.
Calero, who, along with Koehler had a team-best three hits, added an RBI-double in the fourth, and Ryan Wilson's two-run bloop single made it a three-run inning and an 8-1 lead after four.
Starter Jacob Peaden (1-0) threw four innings and effectively kept the Flyers quiet, allowing three hits and one run, while striking out four.
Ed Hall threw the next three innings without allowing a hit and struck out four before AJ Pabst recorded the final six outs.
