DAVIDSON — Henry Koehler homered and tripled, and Bennett Flynn kept Dayton bats at bay late as the Davidson Wildcats earned a 5-4 Atlantic 10 win Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The victory, Davidson's 20th in 33 games, moves the Wildcats to 6-2 in league play, while the Flyers fell to 5-3 in the A-10. The teams will settle the series Sunday afternoon.
Koehler blasted a solo home run in the second inning, but it was his two-run triple to center in the third that nudged the Wildcats ahead 4-2 and for good. Jacob Hinderleider's sacrifice fly scored Nick Calero in the fourth to make it 5-3, and it was then up to the Wildcat pitchers to keep the game in control.
AJ Pabst entered with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth and earned the final two outs of the frame to keep the Wildcats ahead by a run.
Flynn came on in the seventh and recorded the final nine outs and his third save. He allowed just one hit, a ninth-inning single, and struck out three.
Starter Ryan Feczko (4-3) threw four innings and allowed one earned run and three hits and struck out one.
Koehler finished with three hits, including his fifth home run of the season, which got Davidson on the board after Dayton took an early 2-0 lead. Jack Cotrone's RBI-groundout in the third tied it at 2-2.
