Wildcats Hold Off Fordham 7-5 in A-10 Opener

Now 14-10, the Wildcats have won six straight and eight of their last nine.
First baseman Michael O'Shaughnessy drove in four runs, including two in the fourth, to lead the way.
Tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats strung together three consecutive hits to get the lead — singles by Tyler Douglas and Nick Calero and a go-ahead RBI-double to left by Ryan Wilson. O'Shaughnessy then plated Calero and Wilson with a single to make it 7-4.
The Wildcats also crafted a four-run second inning, with Calero singling in two runs and O'Shaughnessy driving in two with a double to left-center, making it 4-1. O'Shaughnessy, Calero, Wilson and Douglas had two hits apiece, while Jack Cotrone drew three walks.
Starter Will Schomberg tossed five innings and improved to 4-1. He allowed five hits and three earned runs and struck out four.
AJ Pabst came into a two-on, nobody-out jam in the sixth, with the Wildcats ahead by two, and retired three straight hitters, including two by strikeout, to end the threat.
Bennett Flynn pitched the final three frames without allowing a hit or run and struck out six en route to his second save.
