WILDCAT SCRATCHES
- Davidson comes in 10-12 overall and 3-7 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, following a 61-59 loss to VCU Tuesday night.
- Eight of the 'Cats' first 10 league contests have come against teams predicted to finish in the top-half of the standings.
- Since joining the A-10 in 2014-15, Davidson has won two regular season titles (2015, 2022), a tournament title (2018), made three NCAA Tournaments (2015, 2018, 2022) and totaled 94 league wins (11.3 per year).
- The Wildcats have recorded an average finish of 4.0 in the 15-team conference and made the A-10 semifinals each year.
- 10 of Davidson's contests this season have been decided by five or fewer points. The Wildcats won the first three, but have dropped seven straight decided by that margin.
- Sam Mennenga continues to lead the Wildcats in scoring (15.5 ppg), rebounding (7.4 rpg) and 3-point field-goal percentage (.373).
- In addition he ranks among A-10 leaders in scoring (9th), rebounding (6th) and field-goal percentage (12th).
- Foster Loyer, who has scored 791 of his 1016 career points at Davidson, ranks among league leaders in scoring (15.3/11th), 3-pointers made (48/8th), free-throw percentage (.904/1st), 3-pointers per game (2.3/9th), assists per game (4.6/4th) and steals per game (1.7/6th).
- Loyer and teammate David Skogman (.882) rank 1-2 in the league in free-throw percentage.
- Since being inserted into the starting lineup, Desmond Watson is averaging 11.3 points, including a pair of 19-point performances.
- Ace Baldwin's jumper with 15.1 seconds to play lifted VCU to a 61-59 win over Davidson in Atlantic 10 men's basketball Tuesday night in Belk Arena.
- Playing without guard Foster Loyer (illness), Davidson fell to 10-12 overall and 3-7 in the A-10, while VCU (17-6, 8-2) became the first league team to reach eight wins.
- Baldwin's pull-up jumper from the elbow broke a 58-all tie in what had been a one-possession contest for much of the second half. Davidson had a chance to answer, as Desmond Watson was fouled on a jumper with 4.5 seconds left. Watson's first free throw cut it to one, but he missed the second. After VCU's Jamir Watkins hit one of two free throws with 3.5 ticks left, Sam Mennenga rebounded the ball and raced to midcourt. But his desperation shot from deep missed the mark at the final horn.
- Watson led Davidson with 12 points, while David Skogman scored 11 and Grant Huffman had 10. Achile Spadone played a season-high 29 minutes off the bench and scored a personal-best six points.
- Baldwin led the Rams with 14 points, while Brandon Johns and Jalen DeLoach each had 12.
- The Rams closed the first half on a 7-0 run, cutting Davidson's lead to 34-32 at the break. VCU finished with a 20-5 advantage in points off turnovers and a 13-6 edge in second-chance points.
- Davidson will enjoy a week break from game action before entertaining Fordham Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2:30 p.m.
