Baseball to Battle Bonnies in A-10 Play

4/14/2022 4:10:00 PM | Baseball

One of three teams sitting atop the Atlantic 10 Conference baseball standings, the Davidson Wildcats will travel for the second straight weekend in league play when they visit St. Bonaventure.

The three-game series begins Friday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m.

The Wildcats, now 25-6 overall, hit the 25-win mark Tuesday (April 12) in a 13-9 win at Radford. It's the earliest a Davidson team has won its 25th game.

The Wildcats have won six of their last seven and are 5-1 in the A-10 along with George Washington and UMass.

SCOUTING THE BONNIES
St. Bonaventure is 2-21 overall and 1-5 in the A-10, with the lone league win coming April 8 in a 6-4 11-inning game at Rhode Island.

Jackson DeJohn leads the Bonnies with a .317 average, while Matthew Williams has driven in a team-best 13 runs. Ben Berger has a team-leading seven steals.

The Bonnies are coming off an 11-1 non-conference loss to Canisius on Tuesday.

LAST TIME OUT
Michael Carico delivered his first career multi-home run game and his first-ever grand slam as the Wildcats endured a four-plus hour game to beat Radford 13-9.

Carico's second-inning grand slam gave the Wildcats their first four runs of an eventual 7-0 lead. He hit a two-run shot in the eighth to finish with a career-best six RBIs and take his home run total to 11. John Hosmer had three hits, including a solo home run.

SUPER SOPHS
The sophomore trio of Carico, Ryan Wilson and Ryan Feczko continues to produce for the Wildcats.

Carico and Wilson are doing it at the plate, where they find ways on base and not only by swinging their bats. Their on-base percentages tell the story: they rank 1-2 in the A-10 and 3-4 in the nation, with Wilson (.562) slightly ahead of Carico (.554).

A catcher, Carico is hitting .421 (2nd in the A-10), with 11 home runs (2nd), 12 doubles (3rd) and 35 RBIs (4th). He's leading the league with 18 hit-by-pitches (3rd nationally), 95 total bases and with an .833 slugging percentage (7th nationally).

Wilson, a first baseman, is hitting .408 (4th in the A-10), while leading the league with 32 walks and ranking second with 13 stolen bases. He's also hit 11 doubles and six home runs.

Feczko, a left-handed pitcher, is the league leader with a 1.82 ERA and, at 7-0, is one of just eight players nationally to win seven games. He ranks second in the A-10 in WHIP (0.93) and is second only to junior teammate Nolan DeVos (5.67) in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.50).

Other league leaders include DeVos in strikeouts per nine innings (13.02), Gabe Levy with six saves and Will Schomberg with 5.97 hits allowed per nine innings, a category in which the Wildcats have four of the top six.
