ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Late offensive surges helped the Davidson Wildcats sweep an Atlantic 10 Conference twin bill at St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats posted 5-3 and 10-3 wins to improve to 27-6 overall and 7-1 in league play. They've now won five in a row and eight of their last nine.
Game 1
The Bonnies made things difficult for Davidson in the first game of the day, taking a one-run lead into the ninth.
But Parker Nolan hit a go-ahead three-run home run, his eighth of the year, to turn the tide in the Wildcats' favor. It came with one out after Michael Carico singled and Trevor Candelaria drew a walk.
Though they had to rally, the Wildcats had an early lead after Henry Koehler's two-RBI single in the first.
Nolan DeVos threw 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs and striking out seven in a no-decision before handing the ball to Ryan Kutz. Bennett Flynn threw a scoreless eighth to notch his first win, while Gabe Levy earned his league-leading seventh save with a scoreless ninth.
Game 2
Davidson built a lead midway through the second game, then got separation with six runs in the final three innings to win 10-3.
Ryan Wilson and Jacob Hinderleider homered, with Wilson's solo shot coming in the fourth and Hinderleider blasting a two-run shot as part of a four-run seventh to make it 8-2. It's Wilson's seventh homer and Hinderleider's fifth.
John Hosmer had a sacrifice fly in the fourth, while Candelaria and Koehler added RBI-singles in the fifth and eighth, respectively. Carico hit his third double of the day in the ninth to drive in the game's final run and cap a 4-for-4 performance that also included two walks.
Starter Blake Hely (5-0) threw five innings, striking out six, while allowing five hits and two earned runs. Will Schomberg took over from there, earning his first save (4.0 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 6 Ks).
