Wildcats Open Lafayette Series with 10-1 Win

It's the seventh straight win for the Wildcats, who improved to 15-3, which is the program's best early-season record in the modern era.
Trevor Candelaria, hitting second in the order, made sure DeVos had early run support, hitting a first-inning two-run home run to center field after leadoff man Anthony Mase was hit by a pitch. It's Candelaria's fourth shot of the year, tying him for the team lead with Ryan Wilson and Michael Carico.
Jake Wilhoit followed with his first sacrifice fly of the day, and Garrett Browder's two-run double down the left field line made it 5-0 through one.
John Hosmer helped extend the Wildcats' lead with an RBI-double in the fifth. Then the Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth on RBI-singles by Parker Nolan and Henry Koehler, an RBI-double by Jacob Hinderleider and Wilhoit's second sac fly.
Nolan, Wilson, Hinderleider, Hosmer and Browder finished with two hits apiece.
DeVos improved to 4-1 with a six-inning, 11-strikeout performance. He allowed six hits, walked one and allowed his first earned run since the Feb. 18 season opener, 26 innings of work ago.
Will Schomberg pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth, allowing one hit and striking out three, before Danny Rosenfield notched the final three outs, two on strikes.
