2/24/2022 3:05:00 PM | Baseball
Winners of their last three baseball games, the Davidson Wildcats will host No. 22 Bryant in a three-game series this weekend at Wilson Field.
Â
Friday's first pitch is set for 6 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday games set for 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
Â
"Bryant coming in as a nationally ranked team will be a good test for us this weekend," says Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "Their ranking is well deserved; they have a great program, and their consistent success is impressive. They are well-coached, and we expect them to play at a high level."
Â
Â
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant enters the weekend 3-0 and ranked No. 22 by Baseball America after sweeping No. 12 East Carolina, a 2021 Super Regional team, last weekend in Greenville. It was the Bulldogs' first sweep of a ranked opponent and landed them in the national rankings for the first time since 2016, when they reached the NCAA postseason.Â
Â
Bryant, which has captured the last nine Northeast Conference regular-season titles, won 10-2, 5-4 and 4-3 over the Pirates.
Â
For their efforts, Bulldogs Logan Allen and Collin Lowe earned weekly honors from the NEC.
Â
Allen had two hits in each game against ECU, hitting .500 (6-for-12) with three RBIs, four runs scored, two stolen bases and two walks. He had an OPS of 1.071.
Â
A right-hander, Lowe threw five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out three, in the opening win over the Pirates.
Â
THE CATS
Trevor Candelaria leads the Wildcats (3-1) with a .467 average (7-for-15), while Michael Carico is hitting .417. Both have hit a team-high three doubles, while Carico and John Hosmer lead the team with six RBIs. Jacob Hinderleider is hitting .385 and has the only home run so far.
Â
On the mound, Ryan Feczko, Ryan Kutz, Nolan DeVos, Gabe Levy, Will Schomberg and Nick Shedleski have combined for 25.1 innings and a 2.57 ERA.
Â
Bennett Flynn (2) and Levy (1) have secured saves.
Â
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats are coming off a 6-4 win over Radford Tuesday night at Wilson Field.
Â
Carico led the way with a bases-clearing double in the second inning, while Hosmer drove in two runs.
Â
Shedleski and Schomberg carried the Wildcats through eight innings on the mound, before Levy ended a late Radford threat with back-to-back strikeouts.
