Loyer, Bailey Lead Hot-Shooting 'Cats Past San Francisco

DAVIDSON — Foster Loyer scored a game-high 30 points and Reed Bailey added a personal-best 20 as the Davidson Wildcats pushed to an 89-80 win over San Francisco Friday afternoon in Belk Arena.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 6-1 overall, while the Dons, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago, lost for the first time in seven games this year.
Loyer and Bailey were key for the Wildcats down the stretch in a game that had 13 lead changes, including nine in a 3:38 span of the second half. Bailey delivered the final lead swap of the night with a long-range 3-pointer from the left wing to make it 69-67 with 4:58 to play.
The Wildcats then got separation with an 8-0 run that included Loyer assisting to Sam Mennenga for a 3-point play, Loyer hitting a deep trey and Loyer spinning to find Bailey for a dunk to make it 81-72 with 1:27 left.
Davidson shot season-bests at the foul line and from the field, finishing at 60.9 percent from the floor, including 68.2 percent (15-of-22) in the second half. At the stripe, the Wildcats shot 84.8 percent (28-of-33) and hit 19 of 21 free throws in the second half.
Loyer posted his third 30-point game of the year, after he scored 30 against Guilford on Nov. 7 and 38 at Wright State on Nov. 9. He also finished with team-highs of five rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block, while hitting 12 of 14 foul shots. Bailey shot 7-of-11 from the floor and hit all five of his free throws.
Mennenga chipped in with 15 points, while Desmond Watson added a career-high 14 points.
Khalil Shabazz led San Francisco with 20.
