GREENSBORO, N.C. – Davidson won its second straight, getting goals from Cameron France, Michele Manceaux and Sophia Caruso in rolling to a 3-0 win on the road at UNCG Thursday evening in women's soccer at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The Wildcat, who improved to 4-3 on the season, registered their second consecutive shutout and third of the season, as they grabbed the momentum early with a goal in the sixth minute and added two more later for the win.
UNCG remained winless at 0-5-1.
Comments from head coach Adam Denton
"It was a great performance tonight, probably our most complete performance of the year. UNCG is a very good team and we got off to a great start with an excellent finish from Cameron France. In the first half I felt we defended well against their attacking threat and controlled most of the possession. The second goal gave us a cushion, but I felt we earned the lead. We did not start the second half as well as we would have liked and took a little time to adjust to UNCG's change of shape. The third goal came at a great time for us and helped us see the game out. The shutout on the road is another great thing from tonight. Now we have to rest up and prepare for a tough trip to UNC Asheville on Sunday."
Quick Hits From the Game:
•Much like it did in last Sunday's win vs. Georgia Southern, Davidson struck first and early with a goal off the foot of France at the 5:34 mark. It was the senior's first goal of the season and third point on the year.
•Freshman Hailey Braemer was credited with her first collegiate assist on the play.
•Davidson padded its lead at the 31:05 mark on a goal from Manceaux, her second of the season, off a cross into the middle of the box, while Gretchen Pearson and Emma Nguyen tallied assists on the goal.
•The third goal was netted by the freshman Caruso, her second, off an assist from Katherine Smith in the 53rd minute.
•The defense took care of the rest, playing shutout ball to give the 'Cats their third shutout win.
•Goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedieu earned the shutout, giving her three on the year to go with her four wins. She finished with five saves in 90 minutes.
•UNCG had a 9-7 edge on shots, but the 'Cats tallied six corners to the Spartans' one.
•The victory vs. the Spartans snapped a five-game skid in the all-time series for the Wildcats, who last won at UNCG in the championship game of the SoCon Tournament in 2009.
Next Up:
Davidson stays on the road and travels to UNC Asheville for a Sunday afternoon game at 2 p.m.
