ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Davidson women's soccer team nabbed its third consecutive shutout to push their winning streak to three in a row after taking home a 2-0 decision at UNC Asheville Sunday afternoon inside Greenwood Soccer Field.
For the second game in a row the senior pair of Cameron France and Michele Manceaux scored to lead the Wildcats, as they ran their record to 5-3. The win also moved their all-time record in the series to 10-4 vs. UNCA (2-5).
Comments from head coach Adam Denton
"It was another tough one for the group today on the road. We started well, created some good opportunities and kept the ball well in the first half. We deserved our lead, but should have had more going into halftime. We struggled in the second half keeping the ball and UNCA put us under a lot of pressure. We lacked some quality in the middle/and final third in some key moments, but continued to work through it.
"The first goal was a great run from Gretchen and composed finish by Cameron. As the second half continued we started to have some more quality and got the second with a quick free kick from Alexis (Pheng), great delivery from Sam (Cascio) and good finish from Michelle (Manceaux)."
"It was a great week with a pair of good results. Now we have to recover and get ready for VMI Thursday and the start of our conference play on Sunday at home vs. Saint Joseph's. Our group is excited about the games ahead."
Quick Hits From the Game:
•France broke up the tie with her second goal of the year in the 30th minute, which proved to be the game-winner.
•It was the senior's sixth career goal and pushed her points total to 16.
•It stayed 1-0 until Manceaux iced the game with an insurance goal at the 85:45 mark, her team-leading third goal of the season and the 10th for her career.
•For the second game in a row, Pearson tallied an assist when she helped set up France.
•Alexis Pheng and Sam Cascio were each credited with assists on the second goal, the first of the season for the pair.
•The three assists gave Davidson 13 as a team to go with 13 goals.
•Davidson finished with a 13-5 advantage on shots and earned five corners to UNCA's one.
•Goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedieu earned her fourth shutout win with three saves on the day.
