Wildcats Fall at PC

CLINTON, S.C. — An early deficit proved too much to overcome Tuesday at Presbyterian, as the Davidson baseball team fell 15-7.

With the loss, Davidson is now 19-17.

The Blue Hose (20-21) built a nine-run lead in the first two innings before the Wildcats scored four runs on four hits in the fourth.

Justin Lebek hit a two-run home run, his seventh shot of the season, in the fifth inning, as the Wildcats pulled within five runs for the second straight frame.

The Wildcats threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with no outs, and scoring when Matt Frey was hit-by-pitch to cut it to 11-7. But the Blue Hose escaped the inning with no other damage, as Alex Mardiney was thrown out at home plate trying to score on a flyout to right.

The Blue Hose hit three home runs Tuesday and were aided by four Wildcat errors.

Eric Jones turned in his 17th multi-hit game of the season.

Frey extended his bases-reached streak to 31 games with a single in the first inning. The hit-by-pitch was his 14th of the season.

Austin Leonard was the most effective Wildcat on the mound. He sat down the Blue Hose 1-2-3 in the fifth, sixth and seventh.

The matchup was the third of the season between the Wildcats and Blue Hose. Davidson won the first two 4-1 and 10-8.

Davidson returns to Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend when Saint Louis visits for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Wilson Field.
