The Commodores (10-2) used a 13-run third inning — highlighted by Pat DeMarco's grand slam — to take control and beat Davidson 24-2 on a chilly and windy day at Hawkins Field.
The Wildcats (6-4) pushed their first run across in the fourth inning when Brett Centracchio doubled and scored on Zach Nussbaum's single. Davidson added a run in the fifth on Justin Lebek's RBI-double.
Eric Jones had the first hit of the day and reached base three times, also on an error and a hit-by-pitch. Two walks allowed Centracchio to also reach three times. Max Bazin had a double in the second, and Matt Frey singled in the fifth.
The Wildcats used eight pitchers. Austin Leonard proved the most effective, pitching perfect fourth and fifth innings and striking out four. Pete Bloomberg pitched a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts.
Davidson committed five errors to help the Commodores' cause.
