Highlights
Eric Jones' third home run of the season gave Davidson an early lead Friday night, and the Wildcats added six more runs in a three-inning span to return to their winning ways with an 8-4 victory over North Alabama at Wilson Field.
Â
"It felt great to get a win at home," said Jones. "To just play on Friday night even — we haven't had the opportunity to play on Friday night in a long time. It felt good. Hopefully, it'll help us get in a rhythm."
Â
Ruben Fontes and Max Bazin drove in runs as part of a three-run third, which broke a 2-2 tie. Alex Mardiney, who was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, came in to score in the third on a balk and in the fourth on an error.
The Wildcats (7-6) made it 8-2 in the fifth on a Bazin sacrifice bunt and an RBI-single from Trevor Candelaria.
Â
Right-hander Allen Barry threw six innings, struck out eight and earned his third win of the year before the Wildcat bullpen closed the door on the Lions (3-13).
Â
"He dialed it in and competed really well," said Jones.
Â
As for Jones' home run, it came after Mardiney led off the first with a single to right center. Then Jones hit it out to left center.
Â
"I was looking for a pitch to drive, and I got it," said Jones, who also singled in the fifth and drew two walks. "The swing has been feeling good the last few weeks."
